Objective 1: Why you should be thinking about the cloud
Objective 2: Things to consider before doing a ground to cloud migration
Objective 3: Moving an on-premises database to the cloud
Objective 4: Protecting sensitive data during the migration process

Abstract:  There is a bias among many DBAs that the public cloud is not secure, and that keeping data stored in the cloud is not an option they are willing to explore. It feels better to know that database servers sit inside a company’s walls and that they have complete control over their database environments. But, after a few years of operating other workloads in the cloud, organizations are confirming that the benefits - availability, cost reduction, and flexible scalability top the list - match the original promise of cloud computing. Consequently, the use of cloud applications is increasing and it is apparent that the move toward cloud computing is inevitable. This presentation will introduce participants to Db2 on Cloud and Db2 Warehouse on Cloud and walk them through a simple process that can be used to "test the cloud waters" by migrating on-premises Db2 development and test databases to one (or both) of these cloud offerings.
