This is a different message for me in that it has nothing to do with IDUG, our volunteers, or even DB2.
We have all heard about Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) hitting the Philippines, and now are seeing the images of the devastation that has taken place. On behalf of IDUG, we are sending our prayers and wishes to the families of the lost and support for the survivors and ask that you join us.
The international community is trying to help with the digging out and relief effort. While governments and military are excellent at those logistics, getting food, water, and shelter to the survivors falls in large measure to volunteer and charitable groups. As a group that exists for users to support other users, we all are familiar with this concept.
If you feel compelled to help, there are fantastic charities in every country that are supporting this effort. Some of them are:
- The Red Cross
- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
- Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontiers (MSF)
I have listed only a few that are well know, internationally respected organizations purely to make sure they do not link to any fraudulent site, not to choose one charity over another.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and your support.
