The new SQL Reference for Cross-Platform Development has arrived

In May of this year, IBM published the newest version of The SQL Reference for Cross-Platform Development.  This document, known also as the Cross-Platform SQL Reference, or CP SQL Reference, is intended for developers who build applications that need to be portable across the DB2 family.   It documents SQL language features that are common to DB2 for z/OS, DB2 for i, and DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows (LUW).  This means that SQL coded according to the CP SQL Reference will be portable across all members of the DB2 family. Version 5 of the CP SQL reference covers the latest available versions of the DB2 family, including DB2 11 for z/OS, DB2 for i Version 7.2, and DB2 LUW Version 10.5.  SQL specialists from each of the DB2 family members examined what is new in the latest versions of the products, and carefully documented them using language from the individual product reference manuals.   The result covers many exciting new features such as

  • enhanced TIMESTAMP precision,
  • XMLTABLE,
  • super groups and grouping sets,
  • global variables and much more!

A full list of new features and a link to the document itself in PDF format is available on IBM developerWorks here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/0206sqlref/0206sqlref.html
