October President's Note

Dear IDUG Membership,

I am just back from one of the best vacations I have had in many years, where I enjoyed two wonderful weeks of rest and relaxation with no access to internet/Wi-Fi or cell phone. It was an old fashioned vacation - just the way vacations should be!

Just like vacations have changed over the years, the way we learn today has changed significantly. In today’s fast paced work environments, good ‘old fashion’ training is hard to come by due to time demands and depleted training budgets. Yet, we are expected to stay current with technology! Using a search engine to find the answers you seek will only help get you so far (and can be frustrating!). So, how can IDUG help you? For starters, if you want that quick answer/solution to your question/problem, then IDUG’s DB2-L (DB2 Forum) is the place for you. Simply ask your question (and yes, all questions are smart), and you will find a host of DB2 users and experts that will come to your rescue. And then, of course, there are the ‘best bang for your dollar’ IDUG events I talked about in my last blog.

IDUG DB2 Tech Conferences are growing in popularity! After all, it’s hard to ignore the best DB2 training around. Last month, the IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Sydney was a huge success with an attendance increase well over 20% from the previous year. And, just around the corner, is the IDUG DB2 Tech Conference in Berlin - with registration numbers already tracking ahead of last year! I look forward to meeting many of you next month in Berlin.

As always, stay connected to IDUG … make www.IDUG.org your gateway to the worldwide DB2 Community and in-depth technical information.

With Best Regards,

Joe Borges
