A Matter of Time: Temporal Data Management in DB2 for z/OS (A01)

Topic: 2011 EMEA

Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS

You could say it was just a matter of time. Industry regulations and competitive pressures are prompting IT managers to maintain more data for longer periods of time and to provide better ways for business users to analyze past, current, and future events. To help organizations achieve these goals, IBM has built greater awareness of time into DB2 10 for z/OS. This presentation introduces you to the key concepts and capabilities of DB2’s temporal data management support on z/OS. It explains when this technology can be useful and provides several examples to help you understand how easy it can be to deploy it. In many cases, deployment can be transparent to existing applications, including pre-built applications purchased from software vendors Application programmers will be able to specify queries that specify a search criteria based upon time the data existed. This function would simplify and reduce the cost of developing DB2 applications requiring data versioning and allow customers to meet new compliance laws faster and cheaper because DB2 will automatically manage the different versions of data autonomically.
