Come learn the essentials of database performance from a DBA's perspective and get some plain speak as to the "Why" behind many of the things that a DBA does or recommends for improved performance. Topics will range all the way from Hardware/Software/Disk configuration to Application Design and recommendations for SQL.

OBJECTIVES:

Understand hardware and software configuration issues and some of the decisions that DBAs and Sysadmins must make to provide a solid platform.

Understand how disk layout can impact performance and learn some best practices for disk layout for optimal performance.

Understand what database configuration is and how critical it can be to performance.

Discuss some common application design errors and understand why, from the database perspective, that poor performance can result.

Discuss several common SQL mistakes that result in poor performance.
