SPEAKERS: John Maenpaa (Health Care Service Corporation)

As business and the Internet drive our need to provide higher availability levels, we need to ensure we are ready to do so. DB2 package versioning is critical when striving for high availability levels. This presentation will help you understand why versioning is so important and then provide guidance on taking advantage of those packages.

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner

OBJECTIVES:

Understanding the basics of plans, packages and versioning.

Understanding the details of implementing package versions, and the things we'll need to keep those versions from overwhelming the DB2 Catalog.

Now, let's consider how this impacts availability. Package versioning can be used in combination with CICSPlex System Manager to provide 24x7 application availability under CICS.

Are there performance implications of implementing package versions? Of course there are, but what are they?

And, of course, we need to discuss stored procedures (and UDFs) and how versioning might impact their use or implementation.
