The author and his colleagues conducted a comparative performance study where they addressed a real-life business problem first with traditional relational database means and then with pureXML. The relational solution was an exact replica of a production application. The study was conducted in DB2 9.5 and 9.7 for Linux and DB2 9.1 for z/OS. The results illustrate considerable throughput improvements and CPU time savings for the pureXML solution.
