Hardware architecture affects how we configure our software, the tools we use for migration, backup, and recovery, and the performance, availability, and recovery (PAR) of our systems. We discuss how the different types of RAID, striping, and storage system caches affect PAR. In addition we discuss in the box vs. out of the box mirrors and snapshots. Finally we discuss how the type and length of data links affects PAR.
