G14 - Mastering the DB2 Performance Metrics System with Down Home Country Performance Tools

Topic: Cross Platform DB2 for z/OS & LUW

Subtopic: 2014

Many organizations today are concerned with the “peak 4-hour rolling average” in a z/OS environment and are looking for ways to reduce this number in order to decrease their monthly software bill. As always, performance metrics are key to determining what programs and resources are performing poorly. By targeting the peak times and the high CPU programs during these times, it is possible to significantly reduce MSUs and improve the performance of DB2 programs, thus reducing cost. This session will show how to gather and interpret real-time and historical performance metrics using CA-Detector (SQL Monitor), CA- Insight for DB2 (Comprehensive DB2 Performance Monitor), CA-Subsystem Analyzer (Object Analyzer) and CA-Chorus (Graphical, Discipline-based Workstation) in a meaningful way. It will also show how SCANA was able to use this information to reduce the 4-hour rolling average.
