In data warehousing environment, quite often it is required to move large amount of data between different databases on different servers. DBAs can be challenged with the problem of data transfer performance, available disk space and/or security issues while doing this activity. DB2 UDB provides many ways to move data.. We investigate and experiment with four different ways of moving data in our data marts.1.Export locally, FTP the data file or use swing disks and load locally to target DB.2.Export from remote DB and locally load to target DB3.Export from local DB and remotely load to target DB4.Export to a pipe and then load from the pipe to a remote DB5.Establish a federated system between the source and target DBs and load from cursor with the nickname in the federated systemThe pros and cons in terms of performance, space, and security for each of the above method are described in the paper. The study shows which method is recommended for better data transfer spee

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate

OBJECTIVES:

learn the challenges for moving large amount of data between databases in financial environments

learn techniques available to address the issues in large DB2 DPF database

Learn performance benchmarks for testing teh data movement techiques

Learn which technique suits the beest ineach specific situation

Other can do better techniques in DB2 DPF databases to further improve performance
