Optimal query access plans are essential for good data server performance and it is the DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows query optimizer

EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate

OBJECTIVES:

Understand what is the best access plan stabilization approach for your application

The best way to ensure access plan stability over time, is to provide the optimizer with accurate and detailed statistics. Learn what statistics are available, how to collect them and how they provide stable access plans.

Besides statistics, the optimizer needs to have a clear view of its surroundings. Learn what system configuration information the optimizer uses, how it impacts the cost model and how to set them accurately.

Occasionally, packages need to be rebound to take advantage of new DB2 features or when upgrading to new versions. Learn how to retain your current static access plans using the APREUSE BIND and REBIND option, new to DB2 9.7.

When all else fails, learn how optimization profiles can be used to specify the access path. Learn what new optimization guidelines have been added in DB2 9.7.
