Are you bored doing the mundane DBA tasks? Are you struggling to find some time for more quality work, such as design, architecture, and performance analysis? You should start thinking about automating the tasks that does not require much intelligence or creativity and does not even add to your skill set by performing it repeatedly. This will help free up your time for more quality work.This presentation will take you through a deep dive into the subject of database automation. You might have already automated several tasks in your environment. However, this presentation will introduce you with the possibility of even greater degree of automation in the tasks you have already automated and to automate other tasks thatís not yet automated. I will share my years of experience in automating DBA tasks, the challenges you will encounter on the journey towards automation and the ways to overcome those challenges.

How to identify the DBA tasks that should be automated and the most common candidates of automation in database administration. A roadmap for implementing automation.

Tools and methods for implementing automation (script based automation, workflow based automation etc). A quick overview of autonomic features available in DB2.

Insight into difficulties in implementing automation and ways to overcome those difficulties. Finding a balance between automating the current process and adapting to automated process.

How to make on-call support DBA role less painful by using self-healing automation

Why and how to define standard operating procedures (SOP)
