This presentation will cover the new DB2 9 for z/OS features introduced for improving the application performance.The goal is to highlight how and why you would exploit each of the new DB2 9 features related to application performance. Some of the features that will be covered are: MERGE, SELECT from MERGE/UPDATE/DELETE, OLAP functions, NTERSECT/EXCEPT, Dynamic index ANDing, INSTEAD OF triggers, Global query optimization, Index on expression, APPEND YES option for CREATE/ALTER TABLE, and TRUNCATE.

OBJECTIVES:

Highlight SQL function and query performance enhancements in DB2 9.

Provide attendees with an appreciation as to the reason why a feature may be used.

Provide an expectation of the performance of each enhancement.

Target DBAs and application developers.

Encourage greater exploitation of DB2 9 for z/OS.
