SPEAKERS: Keith Tidball (Progressive Insurance ), Lori Zaremba (Progressive Insurance )

Performance is a key database requirement, especially in a high availability system like the billing system for Progressive Insurance. This presentation will cover methods we use to monitor and track DB2 performance and then various solutions we have implemented to address performance issues. Some of our solutions were very simple, yet netted us big performance gains. Other solutions surprised us by not always working as expected. Come and hear from actual DB2 developers about some processes that may be able to benefit the systems you support.

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate,Advanced

OBJECTIVES:

Provide various techniques used by a large shop to monitor performance for one of its 24x7 DB2 applications.

Demonstrate how the monitoring reports and trending are used to drive real world DB2 performance fixes.

Provide examples of relatively easy changes that provided large performance gains.

Show examples of solutions outside of DB2 and SQL that also reaped performance benefits.

Describe lessons learned from both the monitoring process and from implementing fixes.
