DB2 V9 introduced Partition by Growth (PBG) objects. This presentation covers what they are and how they differ from previous object types. It covers PBG structure and why you should use it and the appropriate types of data for it. Also covered is how to allocate PBG for the most effective use of DASD. Finally, the presentation covers maintenence and migration of data to using PGB.

OBJECTIVES:

Attendees will know what a Partition by Growth object is, how to create one and what options they should consider when allocating it.

They will know why they should use a PBG and what types of data make the most sense to use it for.

They will understand why different combinations of parameters can effect the amount of data in a PBG and how to maximize the data. The presentation includes a chart for selecting some options.

Users will understand the maintenance considerations of PBG objects. The presentation includes two SPUFI queries to help in maintenance decisions.

Utilities that can be used to facilitate the migration of data from other object types to PBG objects.
