Getting More Out of Visual Explain V8 (F03)

This presentation will teach users how to use Visual Explain Version 8 for z/OS. Users will learn how to install, connect and configure Visual Explain to DB2 for z/OS, which features are available when connected to DB2 for z/OS V7 and DB2 for z/OS V8. Users will learn the different interfaces for graphing static SQL, dynamic SQL, and already explained SQL. Users will also be introduced to statistics advisor.Finally, this presentation will walk through a few key query graph examples to show users how to read the explain graph and look into details to see which predicates are matching, screening, and which are non-indexable stage-1 and stage 2 predicates. Determine which partitions are qualified for limited partition scan, and details into parallelism key cutting.This presentation will jump start users that wish to learn Visual Explain, and refresh or expand the knowledge of experienced users.

Show users the different methods of graphing an SQL

Introduce Statistics Advisor

Teach users how to read the explain graph

Teach users where to find valuable query execution information such as matching, screening, and non-indexable predicates, which partitions are qualified for limited partition scan, etc.
