Topic: DB2 for z/OS

Subtopic: 2011

DATE: 2011-5-3 (02:00 PM - 03:00 PM)
SPEAKERS: Cristian Molaro (MConsulting Bvba )

With today's complex n-tier architectures and heterogeneous applications and platforms, optimization and availability can be a challenge. Fortunately, the ways on which DB2 communicates with its distributed clients is evolving and presents exciting new possibilities and opportunities. During this presentation we will we will deep dive into DB2 Client/Server DRDA concentrating on these topics that can help you to maximize users satisfaction while minimizing resource utilization and infrastructure complexity.

EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate

OBJECTIVES:

To describe DRDA Connectivity options: * Description of available connectivity options for distributed applications connecting to DB2 for z/OS * Update on recent client support improvements * Private Protocol no more: path to DRDA migration

To explore the available Infrastructure options: * Pooling * Workload balancing at connection and transaction boundaries * DB2 Connect versus direct connection

To explore Sysplex Support * Sysplex Workload balancing * Implementation of Sysplex Distributor and Distributed DVIPA * Implementation of Client Sysplex Workload Balancing

To discuss Best practices: * Best practices for high availability and Sysplex Workload Distribution * Recommendations for application development * Review of z/OS system parameters and WLM settings for distributed support

To describe and be able to implement today's state of the art DRDA connectivity options
