Accessing Your Databases the Open Source Way (I03)

This session will cover some Perl basics, connecting to databases with DBI & DBD (simply called DBI from here on), submitting general SQL statements to the database via DBI, building statement handles, cursors, to handle data faster, build Perl modules to create re-usable code.We will then use all the DBI knowledge, CGI a little JavaScript and CSS, to display and/or update data via web pages.Finally, we will discuss building completely dynamic web pages with CGI.

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate

OBJECTIVES:

How to use the Perl DBI to connect to and manipulate data from your database.

How to build reusable DBI statement handles to make database access even faster and more straight-forward.

How to build your own Perl modules and reuse them to save development time.

How to use the CGI interface to put data on the web via your webserver and browser.

How to build very dynamic pages from your data, based on content / user preferences and using Perl modules.
