Topic: Informix

Subtopic: 2006

DATE: 2006-10-4 (13:30 - 14:30)
SPEAKERS: John Pickford (IBM)

How IDS has been extended to efficiently manage spatial data. How these extended capabilities are used in applications. Earlier sessions have described how new data types can be added to IDS and packaged as DataBlades. This session describes the Spatial DataBlade, how it is used in GIS systems, how it can spatially enable any database application, and an example of how this spatial data can be used and displayed. This DataBlade is useful as it is and it is a good example of what DataBlades in general can do to improve your database systems.

EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate

OBJECTIVES:

Describe the Spatial DataBlade

Explain some basic GIS concepts

Show how to work with GIS data
