Many organizations using IBM mainframes pay a monthly software bill based on their peak 4-hour usage window. An increase in utilization of even a few percentage points can mean a significant increase in that monthly bill. By understanding how the rolling 4 hour (R4H) average is calculated you can better tune your systems with a goal of cost reduction in mind. This session will offer an overview of mainframe pricing and describe how the R4H is calculated. It will also offer guidance on how to tune based on your peak usage periods, giving some examples of DB2 tuning techniques.
