Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS
We used to use native explain and simple finger-crossing to review and optimize application SQL. And regardless of what we did it was never enough. Especially when there was never enough time in the day toreview and make recommendations for all new and modified packages being developed and changed by the 80+ distinct application groups within the company. And with the latest changes to performance enhancements and parms available to generate runstats for everything under the sun for optimization, we found that OQWT gave us the expert system we needed to be able to provide DB2 with the best available metadata it needed to make the best access path choices possible. By making this tool available to developers as well as the DBA staff, we empowered the applications to push better SQL through the development lifecycle and gave us all a tool that can easily be used to optimize any SQL, individual or workload, that is passed to DB2.
