DATE: 2010-11-10 (13:00 - 14:00)
SPEAKERS: Troy Coleman (CA)

If you are a long time mainframe COBOL developer the odds are you have heard of XML but you may not realize that a very powerful XML parser is available with z/OS called z/OS XML System Services. Another leap in XML support on z/OS is the new native XML data type found in DB2 9 for z/OS. This presentation will help bring you up to speed with the basics of XML and the two leading methods for parsing and processing XML (Document Object Model : DOM, and Simple API for XML: SAX). I’ll then describe and provide sample code using XML System Services with COBOL to parse or build XML documents from files. I’ll go on to describe and provide sample code written in COBOL using DB2 9 for z/OS to publish XML documents from relational columns along with samples for managing XML stored in the new native XML data type.
