SPEAKERS: Martin Hubel (MHC Inc.)

Many applications enter production with sub-optimal indexing strategies. Regardless of the reasons for this, performance can be substantially improved if indexes are designed or redesigned to better match the needs of the application, to reduce search times, and to avoid sorts.

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner

OBJECTIVES:

objectives - uses of indexes - index structure - Definition of cardinality

multi-column or multiple indexes? - Ordering of columns - Unique or duplicates - include columns

Clustering: the most overlooked Concept - Best choices for the Clustering index - MultiDimensional Clustering

index only access - when and when not To use it

the design Advisor - recommendations for RID indexes - MDC indexes and Clustering
