This is a follow-up of "No Magic to Improve DB2 for z/OS Application Performance" presented three years ago.An outsourced application had regular performance regression issues after DB2 Version 8 Migration. Access paths were not stable even with 3R rules applied. It was not easy to explain the behavior of DB2 for z/OS to Application Developers and Upper Management. Short term solution was to stabilize the best DB2 access paths, then to understand why DB2 didn't find the best access paths as usual. Now, we know why DB2 was not doing the job correctly. But please, don't blame DB2 first.
