Topic: 2009 EU

Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS

DATE: 2009-10-6 (11:00 - 12:00)
SPEAKERS: Joel Goldstein (Responsive Systems Company)

DB2 is a complex system, with a major impact upon your processing environment. There are substantial performance and instrumentation changes in versions 8 and 9. that mustbe used to measure, evaluate, and quantify the performance of the DB2 sytem and applications. This presentation addresses the origins and specific data available for analyzing, tuning, and tracking the performance of the system and applications, and the inter-dependencies and relationships between the various data elements. Our performance world has changed a lot since this topic was originally presented a dozen years ago. The presentation assumes the attendee has a good understanding of DB2, and does not define basic DB2 terminology.

EXP. LEVEL: Intermediate,Advanced

OBJECTIVES:

Data SourcesWhere can we get the data, and what does it look like? Application Accounting Data System Statistics Data

The important performance variables:- System performance- Application performance - z/OS performanceHow they inter-relate and affect each other

Effects of System Tuning on Application performance- Examples of performance improvements- z/OS and DASD subsystem- DB2 system

History - Tracking and Trending Performance- Data volume and duration, periods of data- Effects of long vs. short measurement periods- Exception analysis

Summary- Putting the information together- Planniong for the future...
