In todayís ever changing world with corporations taking others over and being taken over, we as DBAs never know what is around the next corner. Which ever way you cut it, as a DBA we need to know about everything that is concerned with data, where is it, who is putting it there and who is using it. The latter can be users running queries, or ERP applications such as SAP.There is a unique partnership between SAP and IBM, which has led IBM to produce a database that is optimized for SAP which is fundamental to SAPís Cost Control Vision. The SAP approach to databases has its own terminology and methodology which we as DB2 DBAs need to be comfortable with.This session aims to be a "SAP 101" for the uninitiated DB2 DBA. I will cover the terms used by SAP when talking about DB2. At the end of 60 minutes you wonít be an SAP database expert but you will be able to hold a conversation with one.

OBJECTIVES:

Overview of the SAP processing model.

Cover basic SAP terminology with regard to database operations.

Relate SAP DB2 terminology to what we as DB2 DBAs already know.

What DB2 functionality is used within SAP.

Some doís and doníts when dealing with DB2 and SAP.
