In most shops, DBAs need to access a variety of monitors, tools, and reports to get a feel for how their DB2 for z/OS systems are running. Given the complexity of DB2, finding the pertinent information you need can be overwhelming, time-consuming, and sometimes feels like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Frustrated by these issues, we decided to create our own DBA Dashboard. This web-enabled portal pulls together existing information about applications, subsystems, DASD, DB2 internals, and more. Written using PHP and DB2, and complete with built-in charting tools, the Dashboard presents just the information we deem important to troubleshoot, trend, monitor, and better manage our DB2 environments. This presentation will describe what we did, why we did it, and how you can do the same, along with plenty of examples of the Dashboard in action.
