Urban Legend: Upgrade from DB2 for z/OS V7 to DB2 for z/OS V8 (NFM) In Less Than 90 days (B07)

Topic: 2008 NA

Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS

DATE: 2008-05-20 (01:30 PM - 02:30 PM)
SPEAKERS: Marc Costa (FedEx Freight System)

The current EOS (End of Support) date for DB2 V7 is June 30th, 2008. If you have not upgraded to V8, you have very little time left before V7 is no longer supported. Do you like running on unsupported code? While FedEx Freight didn’t wait until the last minute, we did upgrade from V7 to V8 in less than 90 days. This presentation will go over the time line for the upgrade, issues during the upgrade (including CCSID conversion) and some interesting things we encountered after the upgrade.

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate,Advanced

OBJECTIVES:

Can it be done?

Timeline for upgrade

To rebind to not to rebind? - This should not even be a question to debate

The database isn’t the only thing being upgraded - Additional IBM products - QMF, QMF for Windows, DB2 Connect, Visual Explain, etc and ISV products "might" also need to be upgraded

Fun days (and nights) after being in V8 NFM
