Attendees who want to become Performance Heroes in their organizations must attend this session. After a brief overview of some key performance measurements, several case studies of poor performing statements will be explored along with the physical design techniques and solutions that provide optimized results. We’ll explore indexes, composite indexes, clustering indexes, index only access, MDCs, MQTs, generated columns, dropping indexes, and the performance impacts of DB2 9 compression. Emphasis will be on DB2 LUW with applicability to all DB2 platforms. Come and see how various design techniques can be used to turn ugly performance into beautiful performance at peak efficiency. Not all Indexes are beneficial - when and how to safely drop Indexes.

When to consider special design techniques such as generated columns, MDCs, and MQTs, and implementation suggestions.

Understand the Performance Impacts and Benefits of DB2 9 Compression on physical design solutions.
