SPEAKERS: Bilung Lee (IBM)

The Java Common Client (JCC) driver enables Java access across DB2 product family. This presentation will offer tips and tricks to write Java applications using the driver to access DB2 servers with best performance and behavior. It will advise how to tune up driver properties to balance between flexibility and efficiency on data type setting, and will also show when to choose between the new streaming and the legacy locator mechanisms in the driver to achieve flow optimization of large objects. In addition, the presentation will cover driver-side autonomic intelligence, which enables automatic recovery from certain failures but may negatively impact performance underneath. Moreover, the presentation will visit those driver properties with performance impact on statement execution. Furthermore, an inside look will be provided on how to best utilize various XML interfaces in the driver. Come and take home this knowledge such that perfect tuning may not be as far-fetched as it appears.
