Common Table Expressions (CTEs), new in DB2 v8 for z/OS, provide a powerful syntactic tool for improving both readability and performance of SQL queries.This will be demonstrated through a set of worked-out practical case studies.

improve performance of existing SQL queries

improve readability of existing SQL queries

use common table expressions in an optimal way

don't be afraid of using recursion in some very specific occasions
