This talk discusses some of the indexing enhancements being delivered with DB2 for z/OS V9. It will cover the new index compression, support for larger index page sizes, assymetric splits, and random ordering of index key columns, along with other enhancements. This talk emphasizes simple overviews of the functionality, with tips on how and when they are best utilized.

Introduce the new Index Compression support. Give users an understanding of how it works and what kinds of key data will benefit from it
Introduce the new 'RANDOM' order clause for index key columns. Discuss the performance implications of randomizing key columns
Index manager for V9. Discuss the effects of utilizing the larger pages sizes in the index structure
Explain the new Assymetric Split algorithms used, and explain how they can improve space utilzation within indexes
Discuss other small improvements to indexing
