This presentation will show the fundamental concepts of XML, DB2 9 pureXML, and XML applications. No pre-requisite of XML knowledge is required. It will teach concepts such as XML element, DTD, XML schema, XML data model, XPath, XQuery, SQL/XML, and Web services. It will also discuss XML database technologies, and benefits of DB2 9 pureXML technology. This presentation helps the audience in understanding XML technology and prepare for other more in-depth XML sessions.

EXP. LEVEL: Beginner,Intermediate

OBJECTIVES:

Learn basic XML concepts: element, attribute, namespace, well-formedness, etc.

Learn what is DTD, XML Schema, and validation

Learn XML data model (nodes, axes) and concepts of query languages: XPath, XQuery, XSLT, SQL/XML

Understand XML database technologies and DB2 9 pureXML overview

Show what applications can benefit from XML and when to use pureXML in databases
