Version 8 data sharing provides significant performance advantages to DB2 data sharing customers. Since customers are concerned about the potential performance regression when moving to a new release, it is important to understand the performance improvements that the new release includes. This presentation discusses the new features of DB2 Version 8 that provide potential performance improvements in the DB2 data sharing environment.

Understand global lock contention processing in Pre-Version 8 data sharing.

Understand the significant performance benefits of the new V8 global lock mechanism.

Be able to describe the preformance benefit of new castout processing design in Version 8.

Be able to project miscellaneous performance improvements in V 8 data sharing.
