DB2 Virtual Pool Tuning Made Easy (B04)

Topic: 2006 NA

Subtopic: DB2 for z/OS

DATE: 2006-5-9 (08:30 AM - 09:40 AM)
SPEAKERS: Ed Woods (IBM)

In terms of tuning DB2 from a subsystem perspective there is no bigger ‘bang for the buck’ than optimizing DB2 virtual pools. While tuning the applications will continue to be a primary means of enhancing performance, DB2 virtual pools still hold potential for realizing significant performance gains. This presentation will offer a simple and practical methodology for DB2 virtual pool optimization. The process will employ DB2 Statistics trace data to perform a top-down analysis of buffer and I/O activity. Using a simple technique the presenter calls Getpage Analysis, the presenter will wlak step by step through the analysis process. Real world examples will be analyzed to show common pitfalls, oversights, and problems. Recommended strategies for optimization and tuning will be discussed
