While the built in SQL functionality in DB2 is quite comprehensive, it will at times fall short of addressing all the requirements of a particular application e.g. an application requiring some hierarchical support. This presentation describes an approach to handling such situations via user-defined functions and how UDFs can be used to extend SQL to achieve an elegant and optimal application design.
