SPEAKERS: Christopher J. Crone (IBM Silicon Valley Lab)
All character data stored in DB2 has either an implicit or explicit CCSID associated with it. This presentation will give you the essential information you need to know what DB2 is doing with your data, and why. ASCII, EBCDIC, and Unicode will be discussed, and implementation details for DB2 V7 and V8 will be presented. What's the difference between a codepage and a CCSID? How are ASCII, EBCDIC, and Unicode related? How is my data stored, and how can I tell? How does DRDA deal with CCISDs? What are some of the differences between V7 and V8? These questions and more will be explored in this first of a two part session. This session provides the background needed to get the most from the second session in this series.
