DB2 OS/390 v6 & CA ProEdit

DB2 OS/390 v6 & CA ProEdit
Hello Fellow Listers,

We currently use CA-ProEdit as a table editor for DB2. CA support has
told us that this product is not certified with v6 of DB2. Does anyone
have any experience with this combination of products? Any problems?
Any suggested replacement products?

Thanks for your input,

Dave

We use RC/Update from CA. It is not as function-rich
an editor as say the ISPF one (has limited line commands etc),
but it gets the job done.
I have heard that FileAid/DB2 from Compuware
is excellent. We do not have the DB2 piece but the
other parts are great.

We have both the RC/Update and FileAid for DB2. I personally like the FileAid - it is very robust and you are able to edit, delete and insert rows. Some of the features allow you to create an extract of certain rows from production and then load it to test all using FileAid Utilities so the DBA doesn't have to be as involved in the loading of the test system.

You forgot the ability to edit/browse rows of related information at
the same time, on the same screen, whether its RI or application enforced RI
(AR application relationships) and and and.....

You should get RC/Update from CA since it replaces ProEdit. It is my
understanding that as long as you have a valid ProEdit license the
RC/Update license is no cost, etc.. Have you been told differently?

Until I tread to the bottom of this, I assumed Robert was endorsing
RC/Update, but now I suspect not....

Anyway, of course RC/Update does all this relational edit/browse stuff as
well but it's an optional extra so if you don't need it you don't pay for
it. It's called RI/Editor

Re: DB2 OS/390 v6 & CA ProEdit

David (and anyone else still running any of the Pro-series DB2 tools
formerly from On-Line Software) you should be aware of the following:

These products have been superseded by their equivalent ex-PLATINUM "RC"
equivalents and you SHOULD have had someone from CA call you. If you are
current on maintenance you will get the replacement products free as part of
your upgrade agreements and, in almost all cases, you will get significantly
more functionality than you had with the Pro products.

Anyone still running a Pro- product and had NOT been offered a replacement
and IS current on maintenance, send me a note OFF THE LIST
([login to unmask email]) and I will get someone to call you.
