CA Platinum release
Hi list: I recently had a letter given to me from CA saying that they suggest upgrading your release to P99d or later. I am currently at release level P97D1. I have seen letters going across the list about the stability of various releases. Does anyone have any suggestions on what is a stable release and which ones should be avoided. I am at
DB2 V5.1 and OS/390 R10. We have received the tapes for version 6 of DB2 and I will be installing that early next year. I have until Monday to get the call back from my client rep.
Thanks in advance for any information.

(in response to Walter Davies)
Walter,

We went to P99D in early May.
We were on P97G at the time.
We had to go to P99D since it was the
only version which 'tolerated' DB2 V7.
Since then we have had to apply
a significant amount of maintenance.
We do not apply maintenance
for trivial or cosmetic reasons.
We apply maintenance only when something has a big
enough problem that it impacts us significantly.
We still have a tape with 171 PTFs
to apply. I do not know how many of them
are already on.
The number of PTF tapes we have needed
to acquire since May is 16.
I do not know whether you would consider
this 'stable' or not. Also,
you may require less (or more!) maintenance
depending upon which products you are
running and how you are using the products.

I will say though, that the CA tech support
folks can sure find and/or create PTF tapes
in a hurry!

Regards,
eric pearson

Re: CA Platinum release

Walter,

Currently we are DB2 v6, CA/Platinum V99E, MVS 2.10. The only difference we
have encountered is the lack of stored procedure maintenance. The V97D
version has stored procedure maintenance and works like a charm. As you
probably know IBM has moved the contence of catalog table
SYSIBM.SYSPROCEDURES to SYSIBM.SYSPARMS and SYSIBM.SYSROUTINES. I had to
write my home grown QMF queries, forms, procs, and REXX to do the
maintenance.
