Archive log tape question

Archive log tape question
We are running v6 on os390v2.9. Our DASD is 3390's.

We have dual logging and took the default of 3 datasets per log on installation. We allocated 4000 tracks or roughly 200 Mb per dataset. We also took the default blocksize. We said no
on compact data.

When the log fills up and calls for a tape we notice that it soon calls for a new tape saying the current tape is full. The tape contents through 4 tapes on one logcopy always has the same number of bytes as follows
1 block 24584
1 block 27926
11 blocks 28655
1 block 8965
Totals 14 blocks of 376,680 bytes. Then a new tape is called for.

We can't see any appropriate parameters to change on the installation panels.
Shouldn't the log dataset empty completely to one tape? A tape is about 1 GB in capacity.

Don,

This is an intersting one, but let's start from the beginning - what's your
archive log blocksize set to? This is DSNZPARM parameter DSN6ARVP - the
default should be high enough (24K or so), but if this has been set to a
small number, such as 4K, then it's likely that you would run out of tape on
each cartridge due to interblock gaps. Take a look at your DSNTIJUZ job
which assembles the DSNZPARM module for this parameter, or look at a product
that can show you the DSNZPARM online.
