We are in the process of evaluating Compuwares' product DBA Expert and
Computer Associates product Platinum. I would be very interested in your
impressions of DBA Expert.

Hi list,

Just a question.
Is anyone using DBA Expert from Compuware?
And if you are using it, what are your experiences.

Kind regards

(in response to Louis.Commodore)

We have been using DBA Xpert for a number of years without any problems.
Compuware is prepared to support to versions of DB2 when they come out.
Check the archives. There have been previous threads that will give you
more information about previous discussions on this topic.

Re: DBA Expert
(in response to Scott Lindsey)
Gerrit & Louis,

We recently replaced our Platinum/CA suite with DBA-Xpert. We evaluated
other products, and DBA-Xpert seemed to fit best for our shop. It has a
VERY different look and feel compared to what we were used to with
Platinum, but it doesn't take long to get used to it. I have to say that
the learning curve for DBA-Xpert is fairly short when compared to learning
something like a Platinum tool. After a day or two of using it to make
table changes, I was pretty comfortable and could make changes fairly
quickly. The tool seems to be pretty solid from what we've seen so far and
support from Compuware has been outstanding. During our evaluation, we ran
across a bug and had a fix within three hours of the initial report (and
this wasn't an existing problem that already had a fix identified).
Compuware seems to be very open to enhancements as well.

When we went into our evaluation of tools, we considered DBA-Xpert as an
"also ran" and really only brought the vendor in for a demo just to say we
looked at more than two solutions. We were intrigued enough from the demo
that we brought it in for a trial and found that it was pretty robust.
We're still learning the tool, but we're pretty happy with it so far.
