REORG REPORTONLY Keyword
If we are using the REORG REPORTONLY option to determine when to perform a
REORG on a tablespace, should we use the default values for OFFPOSLIMIT and
INDREFLIMIT which is 10 or use something else?

Barbara,

There can be lot of reason on which you can base your OFFPOSLIMIT and
INDREFLIMIT. You can also include LEAFDISTLIMIT if you feel that the amount
of insert, delete and update is high.
But out here we have scheduled reorgs and the frequency is based on size of
the tablespace, type of TS, frequency of update, data compression, type of
application and business critical or not and etc....
Hope this helps.

Syed

Wow!

This one of the most asked questions (generalising to 'When should I
reorganise an object?'). I would suggest a good trawl through the
archives before you go any further.

Several points:

1. Indexes are usually more important than tablespaces
2. V6/V7 criteria are different (more info in V7/inline stats ...)
3. Most decisions require current RUNSTATS (but consider point 2 above)
4. Some third party products offer extra options for automating such
decisions (I declare an interest!)

I am a bigot about reorganising too often(BAD) and not often
enough(BAD)!

Please feel free to contact me off-list.
