Java Type 4 drivers to connect 50 db2 on os/390
Is any one out there using java type 4 drvers to connect to DB2 on OS/390?
If so can you tell me what set up is involved. Are there any pros and cons to connect
with the type 4 drivers instead of DB2 connect?

Jim,

assuming DB2 for z/OS Version 8 :

The maximum key size increases from 255 bytes to 2000 bytes (2000 bytes
allows a minimum of 2 keys per page), and the index can´t exceed 64
columns. The following rule applies for the length maximum of the index
key :

2000-n for padded, where n is the number of nullable columns
2000-n-2m, where m is the number of varying length columns

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Patric

Not sure if I can answer any deep technical Java questions, but we have an
application here running under WebLogic, that uses a JDBC Type 4 driver
from Hit Software, to access DB2 v6 on OS/390. It has been running for at
least
a year and a half without incident.

Re: JAVA Type 4 Drivers

Have you experienced an increase in the connections to DB2? We are
currently using DB2 Connect and letting it do some of the pooling. Using
Type 4 drivers causes each session to connect directly to DB2. We are
concerned about the increased workload.

Re: JAVA Type 4 Drivers

We had to increase our connection Zparms but ours were set fairly low to
start. However, the increase in threads has not been a problem for us.
