COBOL Compiler Requirement For Stored Procs On z/OS [SQLCODE -471]

COBOL Compiler Requirement For Stored Procs On z/OS [SQLCODE -471]
We are new to stored procedures and have been receiving SQLCODE -471 Reason
Code 00E79006. The stored procedures are written in COBOL, compiled using
VS COBOL II compiler, and will be deployed on DB2 V7 (z/OS) platform.

DB2 Messages and Codes indicates to make sure that the routine is compiled
with a level of the compiler which generates a module that can be a target
of a Language Environment preinitialization CEEPIPI call.

IBM Red Book "Getting Started With Stored Procedures : Give Them A Call
Through The Network" (Chapter 6.1.1) states that although VS COBOL II
compiler can be used to compile client applications, the stored procedures
written in COBOL must use IBM SAA AD/Cycle COBOL/370 V1R1 or a later
version.

Can people experienced with implementing stored procedures please confirm
if we MUST compile the stored procedure with COBOL/370 and compiling the
stored procedure with COBOL VS II compilers will not work ??

Thanks for the information.

Don Fleisher.

(in response to Don Fleisher)
Yes, I can confirm that. Sorry, VS COBOL II is not a supported language
for DB2 stored procedures. I think it has to be a COBOL compiler that is
fully exploitive of the LE/370 environment, because LE/370 plays a big
part in DB2's management of the stored procedure address space.
