Thanks

Re: db2 shutdown
(in response to STANLEY GOODWIN)
Not heard of fast shutdown, in a DS environment we were advised to use
the CASTOUT(NO) option of the STOP DB2 command to speed up shutting down
when we wanted to apply maintenance...

Could always turn the power off, that should be fairly fast :-)

Re: db2 shutdown

Two things you can do to speed up the shutdown of DB2

1. Use either SET SYSPARM or some other tool to decrease the DSMAX value to a VERY small number. Then wait a while whilst DB2 closes the "excess" open datasets and then issue the -STOP DB2 command (or better still -STOP DB2 MODE(FORCE)

2. Wait until you are SURE there is no activity in DB2, then cancel the IRLM address space. DB2 fails with an S04F VERY quickly. Because you were not doing any work in DB2, the restart should be fairly fast too

I prefer option 1!

Re: db2 shutdown

You can also whack the DIST address space instead of IRLM.
(I discovered that the hard way)
