Redbook residency: DB2 for z/OS and WebSphere Application Server for z/OS: The perfect
Hello Listers,

Here is another great opportunity to write a redbook in sunny California
(although it has been raining a lot lately).
The residency is 7 weeks (details below) but I understand that being away
from your work and family that long is not all that easy, so I can be
flexible with dates and duration.

Kind regards,
Bart Steegmans.

Residency Announcement: SD-4Z04-R01 DB2 for z/OS and WebSphere Application
Server for z/OS - The perfect couple

Objectives: The objective of the residency is to explore the synergy
between DB2 for z/OS Version 8 and WebSphere Application Server for z/OS
V5, and document our findings in an IBM Redbook. We will also explore the
functionality that is provided by the newly announced IBM z/OS Application
Connectivity to DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 no-charge feature.
As SQLJ delivers significant productivity and performance advantages over
JDBC, it is a very important player in the z/OS arena. Therefore, as part
of the project we also describe how to integrate SQLJ in a WSAD development
environment, and deploy SQLJ applications on a WAS for z/OS system, and how
to set up your WAS/DB2 environment to get the most performance out of your
zSeries platform.

Benefits to Resident: Residents will have the opportunity to work with
developers in exploring the new functions of DB2 for z/OS Version 8 and
explore the enhancement they provide for WebSphere Application Server and
WebSphere Studio development environments.

This residency begins 09 Feb 2004, ends 26 Mar 2004 (7 weeks), and requires
3 residents. The residency is running in San Jose CA.

Nominations should be submitted online on the Web by 14 Jan 2004.

The residency leader is Bart Steegmans whose email address is

Note: ITSO pays authorized travel and living expenses for all residents,
but does not compensate for the time or services of its residents. For
IBMers, ITSO residency travel is pre-approved.

Description: With Version 8, DB2 for z/OS is evolving to fully answer to
demands of the new e-business. DB2 V8 removes constraints and provides more
capacity and flexibility for satisfying the application requirements. DB2
fully integrates with WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Studio, and
also provides more functions and more consistency across the DB2 Family by
using the IBM DB2 Universal Driver for SQLJ and JDBC. Several connectivity
enhancements allow better resource management and performance.
