Re: Problem and Performance Concern While Using DB2 V 7 Online RE ORG in OS/390
(in response to Alice Cheng)
In our busy 24/7 shop we found IBM reorg was unable to get in on certain
objects, at the same time it caused several of our threads to die, no matter
what the parameters we set (for those people that are about to mail me all
kinds of parms).

The only product we found to help us get in was CDB reorg, it tries to get
the object, cannot drain the object and then backs away and tries again at a
later time (you define).

Massively flexible and very easily installed and run out of the box.

Let me know if you want more information.

Kind regards

Leslie

REORG in OS/390

Dear All,

We are using DB2 V7 in OS/390 2.10. Our site considers using online REORG
in near future. I would like to have your kind assistance in providing
input on the problems encountered and performance concern on the use of
online REORG in DB2 V7 for our evaluation.

Your input would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
A Cheng

Well? That's what the DRAIN_WAIT, RETRY and RETRY_DELAY parms are for in
the V7 OLR. Can you give some details on the situations where your threads
died?

Hi Les

yes I realized that... what I wanted to have is some more info on the
situations where you had failures, what happened... Obviously you're
saying there's (yet another) bug in DB2 OLR, and that should interest all
V7 users.

MfG, ME.

YES. we would love some further details. We just moved up to DB2 v7 OS/390 and we are starting to use IBM's on-line reorg for some of our production applications.
Any concerns or new bugs found would be of great interest to us.

Thanks:

(in response to Steve Whittaker)
Michael

been a while since I visited the subject, however, have not been told it is
fixed as yet.

I'lll try and schedule some testing time again and also find the paperwork
on the previous problems.

We found our threads were exceeded timeout time .. i,e the OLR never backed
away correctly for heavy access tables ..

more when I have it.

Ok all, when I return from my holiday I will dig this all out and post to
the list.

Remember though :

1. It may have been fixed and I am not aware of it (note this was not a
PMR).
2. the problem was in a very busy SAP system .. and I mean busy ...

Speak to you all soon.
