DB2 Connect Personal Edition 8.1 problem?

Scott Hodgin

DB2 Connect Personal Edition 8.1 problem?
We are DB2 v7.1 on z/os and I recently upgraded my local machine to DB2
Connect PE v8.1. I had a classic ASP page processing an ADO recordset going
against DB2 on z/os using:

RS.Open Query, ConnStr, 2, 1, &H0001

The '2' after ConnStr indicates dynamic cursor. Before the upgrade of my
machine to Connect v8.1, this statement worked fine and returned all rows.
After the upgrade, only 1 row is returned. If I change the 2 to 0
(Forward), 1 (OpenKeySet) or 3 (Static), the statement returns all rows as
expected.

Anyone else experiencing something similar

Scott,
Just for curiousity sake did you upgrade to Fixpack 4 of V8 of DB2 Connect?
And how current in maintenance on V7 of OS/390 are you?

Myron,

Thanks for the reply. I've opened up an incident with IBM on this. They
are able to reproduce the same behavior on their side as well.

Oh boy, Can you let me know the outcome of this issue with IBM. I've got a
few VB programs that could potentially be impacted by this issue. Or could I
be put on the interested party list?

Thanks

Re: DB2 Connect Personal Edition 8.1 problem?
(in response to Myron Miller)
Here is the response from IBM:

[BEGIN IBM RESPONSE]
Here is the official word on dynamic cursors with the V8.1 OLE DB driver:

Supported Cursor Modes for the IBM OLE DB Provider
The IBM(R) OLE DB Provider for DB2(R) natively supports read-only,
forward-only, and updatable scrollable cursors, called server cursors.
http://www-306.ibm.com/cgi-bin/db2www/data/db2/udb/winos2unix/support/v8info
center.d2w/report?target=mainFrame&fn=c0006786.htm

One work around is to use the Microsoft cursor service. To use this, specify
the cursor location to be adUseClient like this:

Sub main()
Dim con As New ADODB.Connection
con.CursorLocation = adUseClient
con.Open "provider=ibmdadb2;dsn=test"
Dim rec As New ADODB.Recordset
rec.Open "select * from table1", con, adOpenDynamic
If Not rec.EOF Then
rec.MoveFirst
Do While Not (rec.EOF Or rec.BOF)
Debug.Print rec.Fields(0).Value
rec.MoveNext
Loop
End If
End Sub

I am still waiting on when dynamic cursors will be added to the OLE DB
driver, I'll keep you posted.
[END IBM RESPONSE]

I did notice, that if you remove the 'provider', the default behavior is to
use the Microsoft OLE DB provider, which appears to work.
