Reading z/OS catalog

Reading z/OS catalog
Does anyone know how I can read the z/OS catalog to retrieve the hard coded
generation dataset name of a file and put it into a DB2 table?

Kevin,
you could write a REXX to perform a LISTCAT parse out the dataset names then
use an SQL insert.

Kevin,

I am assuming that you mean that 0, -1, -2, etc. were specified and you want to determine the *absolute* generation number?

Go to: http://www.sillysot.com/mvs/ and download the REALNAME code.

I'm not a DB2er, but use REALNAME in REXX with what ever stuff needs to be done on the DB2 side to load it into the table.

Re: Reading z/OS catalog

The supported way is to the the IGGCSI00 facility documented in "z/OS DFSMS
Managing Catalogs" manual. Documented at:

http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/DGT2C110/B.0?SHEL
F=DGT2BK22&DT=20011230194816

Watch out for URL wrap! There are some examples in SYS1.SAMPLIB in the
members starting with IGG (both assembler and REXX).

Bob,

Thanks for the input. That is what I need. Do you know if it will work in
batch?

Kevin,

Yes, it will work in batch under either PGM=IKJEFT01 or PGM=IRXJCL.
